History:
Bethel United African Church’s humble beginning without a doubt a testament to Matthew 18:20, which states “Where two or three are gathered in my name, I will be in the midst of them”
God has truly been in the midst of every avenue the establishment of Bethel United African Church. From the few members who decided to leave in the midst of confusion and chaos in 1993, started a house meeting until we outgrew the space, and started renting at one of the Rutgers University classrooms and later registered in 1994 as a church.
A growing segment of the church membership is non-African-American, many people of Europeans and Mexico heritage will join in an increasing number once a Sanctuary is called home.
The diversity will provide the church with the opportunity to build upon the Black church tradition while also expanding into communities that are well beyond the traditional constituency of the Black church.
Community outreach and neighborhood impact is an important role of the church in the faith-based community development movement, the church hope to be a leader spiritually in the community.
Bethel has long been a church that is active in the community and continues to serve the neighborhood in areas of housing, immigration, employment, youth development and economic development. The focus of Bethel is to provide a three dimensional ministry that nurtures spiritual growth; support academic excellence, and promotion economic empowerment.
In our church-life, all members are equal. Although some members may shoulder special responsibilities, it in no way detracts from the priesthood of every behavior. We believe that every member brings unique gift, which, if any new member never joined us, we would be surely lacking.
